Privacy Policy

Draft. This is a starting point written for a student project — have someone qualified review it before you take payments or collect real user data.

Who we are

Seat Grab is an independent project run by a student in Quebec, Canada. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by Vanier College, Dawson College, or Skytech Communications (Omnivox). You can reach us at support@seatgrab.com.

What we collect

  • Your email address, so we can sign you in and contact you about your account.
  • Your college (Vanier or Dawson), chosen at signup so your account only sees that school's courses.
  • The course sections you ask us to watch — course code and section number only.
  • A push notification subscription if you allow notifications. This is an anonymous endpoint issued by your browser; it does not identify you personally.
  • Basic technical logs — IP address, browser type, timestamps — kept for security and debugging.

What we collect from college portals

For Vanier, we read the public live course schedule: course code, title, section, program/discipline, and available seats. For Dawson, we read the registration "Course Seats Available" listing using Seat Grab's own authenticated access: course code, title, section, teacher, days, and available seats. We store those course listings so the app can search them and detect full-to-open changes.

What we never collect

We do not ask for and do not want your Omnivox or college username, password, student number, grades, or transcript. We do not log into any college system as you, and we never register on your behalf. If any page ever asks you for those credentials, it is not us.

Payment

Payment is handled by our payment processor. Your card details go to them, not to us — we only receive confirmation that a payment succeeded.

How we use it

Only to run the service: sign you in, check the sections you asked about, and send you a notification when one changes. We do not sell your data, share it with advertisers, or use it to build a profile of you.

How long we keep it

Tracked sections are deleted when you remove them. Your account data is kept while your account exists — email us to close your account and we delete it.

Your choices

  • Turn notifications off at any time in your browser or device settings.
  • Remove any tracked section from your dashboard.
  • Email us to get a copy of your data, correct it, or have it deleted.

Under Quebec's Law 25 and Canada's PIPEDA you have the right to access and correct your personal information, and to withdraw consent. Email support@seatgrab.com and we'll action it.

Storage in your browser

This site stores a small amount of data in your own browser — which sections you're tracking, and whether you dismissed the install prompt. It stays on your device and we cannot read it.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that materially affects you, we'll email you before it takes effect.
